Tips for buying shoes

  • Size up! – make sure you have your foot properly sized before investing in shoes
  • Go for fittings later in the day
  • Stand up when having your foot sized
  • Wear socks you'd be wearing with your running shoes
  • Don't squeeze in – smaller isn't better!
  • Bring any orthodics or inserts that you would wear with your shoes
  • Think FIT before fashion – although running shoes do now come in some fun and funky designs, don't let that dictate your choice
  • Narrow down your options first
  • THEN choose ONLY from the shoes that are the right fit first
  • Invest wisely – running shoes may be a bit of an investment up front, but it's pretty much the only equipment you need. A trip to the physical therapist will end up costing you more in money or discomfort. Find a shoe that works and then keep an eye out for sales!
  • Socks matter - moisture-wicking and thermo-regulating performance socks are best for running. Cotton socks can cause blisters (not to mention swamp foot) because they don't breathe well or effectively remove moisture.
  • Believe it or not, wool is a great way to go!
  • Change it up – change shoes every 300-400 miles or 4-5 months.

Look for the signs that show you shoes need to be changed:
